auticon’s Rebecca Beam Named Visionary Employer at the
Milestones National Autism Conference
LOS ANGELES, JULY 8, 2019 auticon, a social enterprise that employs adults with autism in roles as quality assurance analysts and IT consultants working on software and web-based applications, announced today that auticon’s President of United States Operations, Rebecca Beam, has been awarded Milestones’ prestigious Visionary Employer Award during the organizations popular National Autism Conference in Cleveland, Ohio.
Founded in 2003, Milestones Autism Resources improves the lives of individuals on the autism spectrum by educating, coaching and connecting the autism community with evidence‐based information. Each year, Milestones serves more than 2,000 parents, professionals, and individuals with autism through their annual educational conference, training and coaching services.
Milestones’ Visionary Employer Award represents an employer who has demonstrated forward-thinking in creating inclusive work environments and employment practices that embrace the talents of individuals with special needs.
“I want to thank everyone at Milestones for recognizing our team and the work we’re doing at auticon, not only in Los Angeles but around the world,” said Rebecca. “We provide a compassionate autism-friendly work environment where adults on the spectrum can thrive in a career, not just a job.”
Autistic adults often have extraordinary cognitive abilities, such as logic, pattern recognition, precision, sustained concentration, and an ability to intuitively spot errors; yet many find it difficult to secure or maintain mainstream employment. Market studies show that only 15 to 20% of autistic people work within the mainstream labor market, often despite being highly qualified. auticon taps into this potential by supporting autistic adults with job coaches and project managers and produces a win-win-win situation for clients, autistic analysts, as well as society.
Additionally, office design plays an essential role in reducing stress for adults with autism, who may have sensitivities to noise, bright lights, and social interactions common at work.
